Default Compass always asking for recalibration ...

Hey Folks - new to this forum, but I am finding a wealth of information. You guys are a success!!

My '95 has an electronic compass - it says it needs to be recalibrated - I hit the butoon - and - well, it still asks the same question. Understand that I know NADA about this - so any advice would be apprecaited.

Thanks!!

(sorry about spelling...LOL)

2 big questions.......

1. What procedure are you using? The one from your owners manual? If you don't have one, the compass calibration procedure is listed in Techinfo.

2. Do you have a large amp or subs mounted in the trunk?

You can follow the instructions in the techinfo section to reclaibrate it.

http://www.bonnevilleclub.com/techinfo/?article=21

Also, if you have aftermarket speakers they could interfear with the sensor in the trunck causing it not to calibrate at all.

I beat you!

You can move the sensor farther from the speakers to get it working again, too. That article is in Techinfo also.

Amazing - follow the directions - and it works - I never did the "keep going around in cricles under 10 mph" part - Of course now I have neighbors calling the police about some fat white guy driving around in circles in their neighborhood....LOL Found on page 2-68 in the original manual.

Now I will know where I am going - but with the oil pressure problem, I don't know if I am coming back...ROFL

So - that is why you guys make the big bucks...(lol)

You know, I am only 48, but everything I ever did with cars involved a match pack to set the points and a hair dryer to dry out the distributor cap...no kidding. Now I open the hood and go "Hey, I think that is the engine, or is it the..."

Thanks!!

No prob, Lew. I think you'll find these drivetrains really aren't intimidating at all. They're very easy to troubleshoot......and they last forever.

Yeah, I hate it when I have to drive around in circles like that, people have no idea what you are doing.

Hey about that compass thing, every now and then, my driver information center will just quit working for a while, and then it will just work again this happens quite often, could it be because of my subs in the trunk
