your opinion is wrong

pioneer makes excellent head units, just look up the dex-p9, or the p860.
i totally agree... but how much was that one, oh yeah...$500 and $350... well above his budget...

within budget, i still stand by my previous opinion
in that case, check out the p8600. its the same as the 860, but doesnt come with a 2 year warranty, 4V outs or some x-over options. i think thats like a $270 unit, im not sure

If your shoping on a budget, then buy online. There is no reason to go out and spend an extra 50 or 75 bux on an hu when you could just as easily get it cheaper online

Get an Alpine. I dont think you'll find a red one. My alpine is actually blue. THe contrast between the dash lights and my alpine dont bother me a bit. I'd buy your HU off ebay from a guy with good rating. Depending on the make you can get alot of them at about 40-50% cheaper then best buy, circuit city, crutchfield

I know for the Alpine CDA-9833 and maybe the 9835 (which are both older models) you can have the small buttons either green or amber, and the 4 main buttons you can choose from 512 different colors.
