Default Shopping for a HU

I need some help picking out a new CD player. I want one that will fit in the car (this is in my 97), have a CD player and radio, good sound quality, and buttons/display that can be color changed to match the red dashboard. My budget is up to $300, but I would like to keep it under $200 if at all possible. The less complicated (motorized face, etc) the better, since there is less to break.

What are good brands to look at? I have been looking at Alpine and Pioneer, but I cannot find any website for Eclipse.

your opinion is wrong

pioneer makes excellent head units, just look up the dex-p9, or the p860.

alpine, clarion proaudio, kenwood exceleon, eclipse, nakamichi, and those two high-end jvc arsenal and sony units should all be getting your attention

I'm happy with my fosgate. It doesn't have a billion way EQ (i started on pioneer in the last car) but the lights match, and it doesn't need a huge EQ to sound great. I've heard it in two cars with two different sets of speaks (stock and aftermarket) and both are nice.

Definetly get an MP3 one.

My recommendation

red buttons, 7 color display, pretty nice sound even with my stock speakers, and under $200

Some folks don't like the Xplod series, but I kow at least one other member has one of these

There are very few differences of sound quality until you get up VERY HIGH, really look at features, and ease of use.

Maybe steal that HU from Pat.

ya its a good unit, when i got it, there were no such things as a fold down face, and all these extra features, that newer headunits have, its a basic but got the job done and then some, it reall pounded the stock speakers
