I see where you are comming from. It could prove to be an aid or hurtful.
From a different point of view....could they be mounted near/in the front and prove to useful?
If I mounted them in the door panels would they be powered by the front channel or the rear channel?
Personally, if your not using the rear channel on your headunit, i would hook them up to that, this way you have easier time adjusting things on the fly and in-car, atleast you will have ability to fade them in and out a bit to your taste
In addition to the added fader function, having them on the rear channel will prevent you from having signal noise and power loss from either splitting an output between channels/amps or doing a loop-out pass through on one of the amps output
ad for the idea of the sub on the rear deck, there are many cars that have a sub in the rear deck with rear Coax'*
i have always had the idea of cutting the rear deck, and making a "box" that would extend from the rear brake light to the edge of the seat, carpet it and then it would look stockish....

the idea has taken a new twist.
While looking for info on the century, I eneded up browsing a regal forum and came across this:

Which got me thinking since the century doesn't have a center console and has crappy cupholders it could be a 2 for 1 deal sort of thing.
2 of the Tang Bands either firing to each side, down, or aimed up towards the driver and passenger "heads"

I've never heard anything bad about the TB'*, only good.
A local car audio buddy of mine placed on in a 5th order bandpass, I forget the exact specs at the moment. Well over the 140'* on the Termlab mic, and GREAT sq.

I've always wanted to put some circle 6.5" or so in the back deck as well.
If i ever did get around to it, i'd want to run matching drivers to the components i'd be running upfront, and have matching sized enclosures for both sets just to get the correct voice across all corners.
I'd probably just buy 2 sets of the components and not install the tweeters in the rear, or find someone who got a pair and blew the tweets, etc..

I am home this weekend so I can bring the car back to school. Hopefully another good brainstorm on the way back to school will provide me with want I want to do for sure.

where i differ is i am running the tweets in the oringal SSEi speaker grilles. I did it this way because of the way the Speaker Grilles are angled points the soundstage perfectally....every one says rear fill sucks but to each their own
