So when I got my '95 Cutlass Supreme convertible a month ago, it was advertised as having a CD player, which turned out to be a non-functioning Sony 10-disc CD changer (turns on but fails to read discs) rather than a dash-mounted CD player. The head unit in the in the car was the original Delco-Oldsmobile AM/FM/cassette, which I immediately replaced with a Delco-Oldsmobile AM/FM/CD/cassette that I'd pulled from a 2000 Intrigue at a junk yard a few years ago and never used. This weekend, I cleaned all my junk out my '95 Aurora to get it ready to sell (or donate to my local public radio station if it doesn't sell by the time the license plate expires at the end of December). As part of that clean-out, I swapped the radio out of the convertible into the Aurora to replace the Delco-Buick AM/FM/CD/cassette that I'd put in shortly after I got it. Neither the CD nor the cassette player worked in the Aurora'* original Delco radio. When I put the Buick radio into the Aurora, it was a plug-and-play installation except that it re-mapped the steering wheel controls to match what button markings found in a Buick Riviera, Park Avenue or LeSabre Limited of that era. I'd gotten the Intrigue radio to have a "correct" radio to go in place of the Buick unit but I never got around to swapping them as by that point I'd grown accustomed to having the Buick radio in the Aurora, essentially trading an auxiliary fan control on the steering wheel for a sixth radio station preset button, a mute button and a "C&W" tone setting. I'm debating moving that radio into the convertible but I haven't decided yet. Right now, I'm happy with the Oldsmobile radio I have in there. While cleaning out the Aurora, I also found a wired FM modulator that connects to the antenna to add an auxiliary audio input for a mobile phone or iPod. I'd used it in a couple of previous cars but never got around to installing in the Aurora. Regardless of which radio ends up in the convertible, the FM modulator will be going in when the non-functioning CD changer comes out. Of course, I've also got a JVC AM/FM/CD head unit that could go in, which would give me auxiliary input and MP3 disc capability at the expense of steering wheel controls. Decisions, decisions, decisions....

I'd say print your message above for explanation then leave it in the empty hole where the radio was. The next owner will probably install an aftermarket radio in it anyways.

That'* exactly why the least of the radios I have is now in the Aurora. It works, it looks original and it'* no great loss if somebody replaces it with an aftermarket unit and thus starts their own radio swap narrative.

I pulled the non-functioning CD changer from the convertible yesterday but then I decided I wanted to go out for a drive more than I wanted to install the FM modulator and ran out of daylight. That part of the operation can wait for another day.
