Question to people with upgraded speakers
Are stock speakers significantly heavier then aftermarket?
Is the installation simply unplugging your old ones and putting the new ones in?

My aftermarket are way heavier, but they are Alum baskets and Titantium cones.....
and yes for the most part its plug and play
Comfy.....take all the paint off your car if you want some weight reduction....seriously

Good idea but I still want a normal looking car.
But hey looks like Im a legend here. I did break the performance and brain storming claim afterall.
Im not the only one looking to save weight. I see the things they do on 3800pro and clubgp. Im nowhere near as extreme as those guys. In the end I'll probably save 200 pounds. Some guys there are in the 600 range.

If you can still find them the Kenwood Dual-Mag series were extremely light and allowed for very shallow mounting. I'm not sure if they were ever offered in 5.25" and/or 6x9 sizes to serve as a direct replacement however.
I don't think weight is a big issue unless your counting ozs. I put Cerwin Vega HED 6x9 in my rear deck. It was a major sound upgrade over stock.Alot more base. If you do go with 6x9'* know, that they will fit under the stock grills and will look factory but, You will have to do alittle filing. I used a dremel tool to make the job faster
