Default Upgraded Tires/Lowering the Car

Quick question for anyone who can offer their opinion:

I currently have Goodyear RS-A 235/55R17 stock tires on my vehicle. I've got about 38,500 on them and still around 15,000 miles left it looks like...they're in pretty good shape. Anyway, I'm looking to upgrade my tires. I was looking at the Potenza RE-950s in 235/45/HR 17. I think that stock the car (2001 Black SSEi) has too much wheel well showing as it is and I know that going to a lower profile tire will add to that problem.

Question is that I want to lower the car enough to have little wheel well showing but now so much that I hit every damn bump in the road or severly sacrifice ride comfort. Any suggestions?? I haven't seen anything for the newer bonnies as far as lowering goes so if any of you have suggestions, please let me know! Thanks!

Jason

If you get a smaller side wal it WILL look like crap. I went from stock size 225-60-16 to 235-40-18 and i have more wheel well showing my spedois a little off and it looks like crap to me. Next time i need tires im going with 235-50-18 this will again mess up my spedo but most of my wheel well gap wil be gone. I really cant tell the height difference between my smaller aftermarket wheels n my stockers so no matter what side wall you really wont notice a difference in a whole car drop

to make a long story short stay with your stock size if u go smaller more wheel well gap n messed spedo more side wall less gap messed up spedo. just wait for teh dropped springs

Big rims recalibrate your Speedo... then get a better final ratio to compensate for the change. If you really want to be lower there are a few options but none of them are cheap. Lowering your car is serious business if you want it done right. The GP guys use drop springs. They are ok but then you get a bouncy car. So then you have to buy new struts to compensate. In the end you are looking at $260.00 for the drop coils if enough people buy them. LOL not likely. So then it’* a one off price of around 500.00. Then there is the price of the struts well koni struts cost around $200.00 each if you buy a set of 4. So now you are at 1300.00. If you want a suspension that is adjustable then 1450-1800 will be the cost. To adjust the rear springs is what costs 350 more. This system will work on 92-99. I will be looking into bags but the issue with bags is getting the best quality. Goodyear is good.

boseman:

If you go with 235/45/18 your speedo will be very close. It will read about 1.3% fast.
