Default Dim display on stock delco?

There'* this radio that I'm looking at getting (it has CD, mine does not), but it supposedly has a dim display. Anyone ever heard of this before? Is it something that can be fixed?

I spend more time under the hood than under the dash, so any thoughts would be appreciated.

Take it apart and change the bulb thats behind the display, chances are it is burnt out. This happend in my 90 Olds 88 and the bulb solved the problem.....

And is that a really hard thing to do? I'm fine with basic hand tools, etc., but soldering is another story. Also, is it a bulb that can be found without too much trouble?

The radio is out of a '98 Grand Prix, and I'm told that the red display for the station, etc., is dim. Readable, but not what it should be.

Yeah, I didn't think that a display like that would have a bulb either. Must be for the backlighting or something?

I'm probably going to pass on this one and look for something aftermarket. I was going to try to stay GM/Delco for ease of mounting, etc., but then I remembered that I have a GM wire harness end and part of an install kit from another car I had a CD player put into. Which makes the aftermarket market a bit more attractive (cheap) for me. If I was going to have to buy all of that stuff on top of the unit itself, it would be about even.

sounds like it just can't tell when the headlights are off? oh well doesn't matter now if you're gonna pass.

Yeah, that does make it a moot point, I suppose. Thanks for all of the replies, anyway.
