I took the challange and made a double DIN head unit fit in a 1.5 DIN space mostly cause I aquired the head unit for no charge. Quite frankly, the DVD quality on my Eclipse is not as good as some of the motorized single DIN unit'* I've seen. Mine is listed as a 6.5" screen and most of the motorized ones I like are 7". There'* more pixel compression which makes for a relatively poor picture on mine.
The feature that prevents the DVD from operating while driving is usually one wire. Normally it'* connected to the Park/Neutral switch or parking brake switch. you'll probably have a difficult time convincing an installer to wire it so it will operate while driving. There is a certain amount of liability that a shop has for the proper installation of a device like this. With that being said, mine will work at any time (providing I can find the damn remote to press play).

If it connects to the park/neutral switch, all you need to do, is find that one wire, and give it an ignition-on 12v source. That'll bypass it all.

On the new Pioneers you need to hook it up to a switch.
