Default aftermarket digital speedometer

so my speedo has not been working now and i have a didgital speedo i got for free so i figure for time being i will just hook it up instead of getting a new/used guage cluster. So my question is if i could just plug sense wire right in to the existing wire on the speedo? and our speedometer is and electronic sender not mechanical correct?

I dont think so. I think there is just a cluster of wires connected to the back of the cluster itself. I dont think the module will interconnect with the existing connection. Please correct me if Im wrong.
