Help Speedometer problem

My son has a 1994 Bonneville SE, his speedometer stopped working and when it quit the "Service Engine Soon" light came on.

Does anyone know what the problem could be?

Maybe the VSS :? I'd try to pull a code.

i would say first, check the wires going to the VSS and if ok, replace it. i think the code for a bad VSS is a code 24 if my aging mind doesnt fail me

i have seem broken wires at the connector.
