That distorted bass may be the bass amp. Do you have the little slider thingy to adjust the bass right above the ashtray? disconnect it from the rear and see if that helps, or disconnect the amp itself. It'* under the center console.

Great link on the stereos. Thanks a bunch, Along! We may have to add that to the links section.

I dont have the slider on my model. It has the Bose Dynamic Equalization sticker on the front where the slider usually is. Is there an amp behind that maybe ? In addition to the main 4 channel amp ? Any other ideas ?

No problems, glad to help. I know how long it took me to find that place so I wanted to share it around.

Well, it'* not a bass control; it'* a subwoofer. Separate control for a separate component there. (If I push mine anywhere above about 30%, it makes the mirrors vibrate. )

Yeah, my 92 SSE has the slider and the bass rocks. It doesnt have the Bose system in it. But my 97 SSEi has the Bose system and doesnt have the slider. Is there still a subwoofer amp ?

Check your rear speakers to see if there are 4 wires going to them, 2 for the subwoofer, 2 for the mid and highs.

there are only 2 wires going from the amp to the big speaker. Then from the big speaker there are 2 wires going to the midrange/tweeter. There is no amp built into these speakers.

You sure about that? I thought the subwoofer was one component, behind the dash, not by the speakers under the back window.

The 6x9'* have subwoofers integrated into them. There should be 4 wires going to each speaker, two from the amplifier (located under the radio inside the dashboard) and two directly from the radio. I'll double check this later on.

Nope, there is no amp on the speaker and only 2 wires. I even took a photo of the speaker and it only has 2 wires going to it. This is the Bose system in the 97 though, maybe thats different....
