He is currently haveing several issues with his ZZP tranny, you can read about it here.

http://www.bonnevilleclub.com/forum/...ic.php?t=46258

http://www.clubgp.com/newforum/tm.as...mode=1&smode=1

After a long conversation with him I think I know what the problem is.

He informed me that the tranny had been surging while driving and shaking while taking off and stopping. To me this sounds like a clasic TCC soliniod keeping the torque converter locked on. Because he kept driving I am going to say this is what damaged his Torque converter.

I am sugesting he replace all the soliniods/chain (I'm going to guess it stretched from the Torque converter being locked) and torque converter. The tranny may also need the tranny fluid splash gaurd (they usualy break if the chain stretches)

Of course if you have another opinion I would gladly accept your input.

Andrew has also expressed in interest in going with a higher stall torque converter so you may want to contact him at XXXXXXXXXXXXXX to discuss the Torque converter and other tranny part costs.

I would also like to speak to Zooomer about some personal things so if he would please call me that would be great (XXX-XXX-XXXX) I do have a funeral tomorrow at 10am-12 cst but I will be free after that.

Thank you,
John Freimuth

Sorry for the slow replies. We've very busy right now. I'll have some time tomorrow if you want to chat though John.

I had my oil changed 2 days before the tranny whine started, and i noticed tranny fluid was a bit low. I added 1 qt. When I added that 1 qt, the fluid looked fine. Two days later when the whine started, the fluid was black.

Torque converter is toast (I have a stock one I will give him for free)

Replace all solinoids

Replace stock 2.93 chains (they are most likely stretched)

Replace tranny fluid catcher (plastic piece that catches the tranny spray from the chains it will be broken if the chains are stretched)

Possably the input shaft retaining ring is broken (Something Steve brought up as a possability)

Will need the Valve body gasket (and the two tiny filters should also be replaced)

Chain cover gasket.

I have a spare tranny wiring harness so I can replace it if its bad (so he does not need one)

I have all the stock torque specs along with the Intense ones also so if ZZP has different ones please let me know so I can build the tranny back to your specs.

I have CC'ed a copy to Andrew so if you want to talk directly to him about parts etc... Please do so. I know he would like to tow it up here for me to work on it next weekend (a week from this saterday and a 2 hour tow)

If you have any questions for me XXX-XXX-XXX

That bites balls if it'* the torque converter. I did hear from rick at certified that the tcc lockup solenoid they use is hardcore and really holds the lock.. it'* possible *with how this car likes to make boost in 4th gear* that it was putting too much load on the TC causing it to fail.

I still have zero idea though as I am not a tranny man and never will be. ZZP did all the work, got the TC from Ed which was installed by ZZP when the trans went in.

Buggah this is all the blow.

heard from zoomer... he sums it up here

OK, got off the phone with John and Andrew.

Trans is 1 year old and out of warranty. The car is no longer owned by the person who originally bought the trans from us. Tranny was installed by us but converter, chains, hard parts are all stock.

I explained that if they wanted to get the car here we could take the tranny out, rebuild it with new parts and put it back in for $500 plus any hard parts like converter or dif that may need replacing.

If the transmission gets shipped back here the same deal applies and we'll handle shipping costs to but Andrew has to handle shipping costs from.

If the transmission gets worked on at his location we'll ship them whatever parts they would like to buy for it at a discounted price.

Not that it'* anyone'* business but people seemed curious, so there you have it...

you have no idea how hard i am thinking right now...

i coudlnt even work straight today without it getting on my mind...

option 1: tow it to michigan, drive the 600 miles and 9 hours, costing about 300-400 in towing, hotel and food, get the tranny rebuilt for $500... still not knowing what hard parts i need to buy...
total:$1000+ easily

option 2: tow it to the cities, drive the 60 miles and 1 hour, costing $75 for the tow, get the tranny taken out, ship it to ZZP for $200, have them rebuilt it for $500... still not knowing what hard parts i need to buy... they will ship it back for free, and john will install it for $300...
total: $1000 easily

option 3: tow it to the cities, drive the 60 miles and 1 hour, costing $75 for the tow, get the tranny taken out, install a used tranny for about $500, and have john install it for $300... then maybe later on ship the ZZP tranny back to them and see what they can do with it...
total: about $900

option 4: tow it to the cities, drive the 60 miles and 1 hour, costing $75 for the tow, get the tranny taken out, see what is actually wrong with it, order discounted parts from ZZP, which could be any ammount, get the parts shipped back, have john install the parts for $150, and reinstall the tranny for $300...
total: 650? and a LONG time with no car

ANY MORE IDEAS???
