Greetings--

I'm in the home stretch of the window regulator fix (right-rear) and was wondering if you could tell me how much slack is supposed to be present in the cable, if any. I've got the thing pretty tight with no slack. Wrapped it around the pulley where it was tight enough I had to stick a screwdriver through the center of the pulley and align it on the 'cog.' Took a lot of strength. Is this too tight? The spring at the top of the mount is completely compressed in the 'up' position. Just don't want to get it all buttoned and have it too tight. Excellent write-up on this by the way.

It looks fine. The cable does get very tight after getting things all lined up. With that amount of tension, it explains why the cable pulls through the plastic after a time.

Excellent. I really appreciate you taking the time to create such a thorough write-up for this. I'm wondering if I should go ahead and do the other side before it breaks.

If you have the time and inclination, I would suggest that you do it on the other side. You shouldn't have to take the regulator apart to do it (other than the black cover that is discarded). Someday, I'll even do it to my good one.

I would but it'* so much fun untangling all the cable after it has broken and busting your knuckles trying to re-align it.

Regulator rebuild complete. The metal piece was not pretty but it works. I actually found a flat piece ("mending bracket") which worked well. Basically a corner bracket that was pre-flattened. Stuck a lock washer in there too to keep things from pulling out. Thanks again Archon for your excellent write-up. Now I'm just waiting for the other side to go.

Well, the other side just went! Fantastic. Oh well, at least I know how to fix it now. Off to the hardware store...

It went much quicker until I had it back in the car and I heard the snap again! More of the plastic was busted on this one so the "standard" fix didn't work. I had to beef it up with two lock washers and some zip ties but it is working. I'm glad I only have two rear doors.
