i have replaced FOUR of these things in 73,000 miles! we all know that this is NOT NORMAL! unless GM is building THROW AWAY cars now just like computers! and this can't be true either - because these cars DEFINATELY do not have the price of computers!
naw, definately not from wear and tear! It'* just a faulty design. There are many 87-91 bonnevilles that haven't had a single regulator or motor fail but there are an outstanding number of 00+ vehicles that have had several fail. The way they designed it is horrible. The cable rubs against plastic 'guides' and either the guides break, or the cable wears to the poin that it snaps. The older regulator designs were nothing like this and were MUCH MUCH better!
here'* a picture of a broken regulator I replaced on our 00 SLE.

Doh!
2003 SE - My Driver'* Window just went! It'* stuck in the closed position and will not even run. :( Guess i just joined another club, :o Just turned 33,000 miles. Well, at least my 36,000 mile warranty is still in effect!
(It does cover this doesn't it?)

The warrenty does cover this. I purchased the optional 75k 5yr warrenty just to make sure I was covered for 5 years. I am glad that I did. With the warrenty issues that I have had it has been well worth the 1700.00 I paid.

Rather than giving me a percentage of the repair costs, they offered me a $1000 rebate towards buying a new GM. Are you kidding me? I'll never buy a GM lemon again.

Mike, It'* just one of those things. We all know it'* wrong for GM to engineer a faulty window regulator that is prone to premature failure. Look at the upper intakes on all the L36'* out there that are failing. It'* referred to sometimes as planned obsolescence. I've got my fingers crossed, I haven't replaced a window regulator yet. But I could be getting close. shhhh.......

I have a 2000 SE. I have had to replace this in both rear windows (which I almost never use). The first one went at about 30,000 miles and almost 3 years old and was covered under the original warranty. The second one (on the other side) went with about 45,000 miles and about 4 years old. To repair this at the dealer runs about $350. I had purchased an extended warranty and it covered the second repair.
