Personally..I like to perform the flush first .. that way it'* clean before you start.

I want to clarify for future reference that gojo83'* complaint is based on the fact that his kit had only one stovepipe and that it did not fit his LIM. He ordered and received an APN kit in December, before they were being shipped with the second smaller stovepipe that fits 99 and newer cars. According to APN, and our observations, all new APN kits will be shipped with two stovepipes.

To be mentioned, the LIM does not need to come off in order for the stovepipe to be changed. Only the UIM/throttle body which could probably be moved back a few inches and reinstalled w/o unhooking absolutely everything.

I plan on doing the LIM gaskets anyways.


I was at the parts store just a bit ago and I'm pretty sure i found the Help! tubes. They were $2.99 for a package of two. Do I just need one package or two?

You need one package with two elbows.

Overall..there aren't any mods I'd suggest at this point. We had a three test cases for porting lower intake manifolds and two blew motors quickly afterward.


beside kdg which other engine blew. i don t see how a ported LIM can blow a engine

Mike's1995 was the other. While it doesn't seem that one should, you only quoted part of my statement. IIRC I mentioned one was a possible borquing of LIM issue. Until we can get more data from the two, it is suggested not to mod the lower.as a safetly precaution.

When installing the coolant elbow, should I use a small amount of silicone on the
O ring to prevent it from leaking? Also is there any tricks to the elbow install?

Yes, that is a good idea. The silicone would be to ease the installation and prevent scuffing the o-ring which might cause a leak. The silicone itself will not prevent a leak, at least not for very long.
