Does anyone know what the U 1040 Trouble Code is, and how to get rid of it.

DTC U1001-U1254 Loss of XXX Communications

This refers to the CLass2 serial communication the car uses to talk to the various control modules within the car.

Have you changed out your stock stereo lately or had any car anomalies recently?

i have had alot of lights coming on ( trac control ,brake) and the all of a sudden go off durring the drive. also climate control doesnt come on until a couple min after start up. and just last week it take five to ten attemts to start.

There might be a need to have it scanned with a tech 2 gm scanner.
Thats all I know that can diagnose serial data issues?

Have the dealer scan the for codes and check the log history.

U1040 shows that communications has been lost with the electronic brake control module. You can start by checking connections and grounds for that module.

any idea where the grounds might be?

The diagram shows G104 on the driver'* side of the engine back toward the firewall. It should have a black and a black and white wire.
