Hmm, hadn't heard about any front tranny mount issues, I'll have to get mine looked at. Me, I'm a cautious kind of guy and diagnosing internal tranny problems is way out of my league so I'd get it to the shop for an "evaluation" at the next available opportunity. That'* just me. Could it get worse? My brother, it can always get worse! My ride is my only ride, I need her to be in tip-top shape so I can go to work and earn more money for mods

I'm doing some comparison shopping right now and sending off some emails. I was originally just going to get some parts and have them put in at a local shop but looking at the numbers I'm not too far off from the cost of a new tranny from ZZP or GM. Sadly, the Intense tranny kit is out of reach right now. What boggles my mind is the warranty on the ZZP and Intense tranny'*....neither has one more than 6 months where the GM one has a 3yr/100,000mi warranty. For my needs right now I may just go with the GM one and be happy. Just wanted to mention the path I'll likely take in case you end up facing the same decision.

[Edit:] ZZP offers a 12 month warranty on their tranny for an additional $299. The Intense kit has a warranty per piece, each piece usually having a 90 day on it.

Greetings all. First time poster. I'm the 2d owner of a 2001 SSEi, with 68K on the clock. Presently the car is sitting at the local dealership, won't start. The 'service engine' light had been on for a few days, took it in for a computer scan. Was told to change the crankshaft position sensor. Had that done. Brought the car home, parked it overnight. Next morning, it ran poorly, and stalled twice at stoplights. That being a Sunday, mechanics are unavailable. Had to have it taken to the dealership on the back of a local tow truck the next morning when it would not start. Dealership says a plugged catalytic converter is the primary culprit, 2 new coils, plugs & wires are the fix, after replacing the converter.
Just to follow up a bit: I spent all day yesterday replacing 6 plugs,(I installed Autolite APP 606 double platinum plugs), wires & 3 coils. Today, it was off to the local Midas shop for a new catalytic converter. Converter was indeed plugged. The dealership decided not to replace the converter under warranty, telling me that it was my fault everything went sour ... by not following the maintenance schedule and " ... the spark plugs were warranted for only 36K .... " regardless of the Owners Manual maintenance schedule not mentioning the plugs or wires until the 100K service. This, after I balked at giving them $800 for the work I just did myself. The upcoming talk with the owner of the dealership involved is going to be very interesting.

Thus far, the car seems to be running normally, no lights on the dashboard, etc.

Now that I've discovered this site, I plan to visit & post more often.

You gave them money for work you did yourself? Something doesn't sound quite right there. I'm not really sure this is the right thread for you to be in, but welcome to the club anyway You'll find most people are really helpful here.

Perhaps I didn't make that clear enough. The dealership was willing to change the converter as a warranty fix as long as I ponied up for the other work. When I said I'd do the work (plugs, wires, coils ) myself & then they could do the converter, suddenly the converter was no longer a warranty job, essentially doubling the amount of money they wanted. All the dealership had done thus far was an evaluation and computer scan. They have other questions to answer yet.

Maybe I don't belong in this thread, but it seemed the most appropriate spot to add something current about a Bonneville SSEi. Maybe my little adventure will add to someone else'* fund of knowledge. Who knows?

Wow, that sounds like an awfully shady dealership. I'm a very big fan of good customer service and I would be hard pressed to ever to return to a dealership like that. I think I'd also be having words with the service manager and general manager, but then, that'* me. Things like this are why I occasionally record my conversations with mechanics, mostly because I don't have the greatest memory, but it makes great proof when talking to a gm.

Hey All,

This is my very first post just found it today. Here goes.

I too am having the shuddering problems. I changed the Tran. fluid and it did have some metal pieces in the pan. Took it to the local tranny shop and the guy first thought it was totally tuneup related (plugs, wires, coil pack, fuel filter). Went through that and didn't remedy the problem but helped. He had ruled out the tranny so far, so he tried some other things but still doing the shuddering 40-65 mph.
Called him up yesterday to see how he made out, and he said he was kinda eating his words about it not being the tranny. He talked to a guy about it that deals with torque converters and he thinks that is were the problem is. He was going to call me with pricing but hasn't so far. I think he has been honest just busy.

So after all that. Has anyone had this repair done? How much do you think it will run?

Thanks

Still haven't found a fix, although I'm mostly convinced it'* the torque converter. The guys at Midas hooked up their scanner while I drove and said that the TCC was never going into lockup. I'm no transmission guy, but I'm assuming it'* supposed to at some point.

I did find that after I installed the solid motor mount that the shuddering went away but was replaced with a much more tolerable vibration. I'm thinking that I'll get some tranny work done with my tax return money....or maybe just pay bills.....decisions decisions.

EDIT: My brain was dead....it was the Cottman guys that checked out the Tranny, not sure Midas even does that kind of work...or if i'd trust them with it.

I never found a cure either...worked on my car for years trying to fix it (had it in the shop at least thee times and they kept telling me it was fixed and as we drove it away, it did the same thing). Now I have a 2002 that is thankfully free of this problem.
