Whipping it back into shape, eh? Tell the wife it'* still in the "testing phase"?
Exactly what I did just now.
Caught her wanting to scream a few times but with Victor and Chynna snickering in the back seat and after she swore that she wouldn't hamper the testing......

It'* a real family screamer now.

For a week it was doing just fine then it did it again. This time while my wife was driving a few blocks from home. It died as she coasted around a corner. She pulled over and .....no start she tried for a while then waited 15 minutes after praying a bit and it started.
In desparation I decided to replace the Battery.
A week later, just yesterday, it happened again. This time as we were trying to leave the garage and were in a hurry. No start.

So I spoke with the GM Service Manager. He tells me this has happened on many cars and it'* hit or miss trying to find out if it'* the PCM, which he tells me would cost $3000. for a new one or $700 for a rebuilt one, or it could be one of 20 or so relays.
They would have to test while the problem was happening. Problem is that it only lasts a short time and is so intermittent......Grrrrrrrrr.

Bullet, I'm assuming that your not getting any sort of lights (you said thta you were not in your other posts) on the dash when this happens.

The last time I carefully noted what happened. I had Laura in the car trying to start it and cycling the key to start.
The dash lights would come on and everything appears normal when the key goes to the on position. I can hear the fuel pump. Then when the key is turned to start, there is some very slight ticking sound coming from the underhood fuse panel, no lights on the dash. Key back to run and the dash lights come back on.
Did this about 20 times over about 5 minutes and then it started just as we about to abandon it and take the Firebird.

Cheetah - The wiring diagram for 2000 SSEI shows the oil level switch going to the PCM. No telling what the PCM does with that signal.

SilverBullet - Wouldn't hurt to check the oil level. What happened last time it didn't start:
Crank?
Dash lights?
Hear fuel pump?
Do you or your wife have a lot of 'stuff' on your key chain?

There must be a way of pinpointing the problem when its happening.
I don't like the idea of trial and error......replace starter.....replace...replace...replace... :?

Nothing on our keys except the fob.
