Okay, got the new regulator installed and it works fine; hope it lasts. Total cost from 1A Auto was $112.

I looked over the old regulator once I had it removed from the door. Thought about trying to fix it with the information from this forum. But as I looked closer, I saw that the sled plastic was cracked in several places. Might be that this would make no difference, but it would be my luck to spend time and effort and end up having it fail again due to aged and fragile plastic.

Here'* a photo of the sled:

Sure are lots of cracks on it.

By the way, I didn't want to have duct tape holding the window up while I waited for the regulator to arrive from 1A Auto--didn't know how long it would take. So, I used a piece of half inch PEX tubing approximately 9.25 inches long and placed it in the regulator track. I had to flatten the end of the PEX a bit with pliers to make it fit under the sled but that was no big deal. The PEX is flexible and followed the track'* curve once I tied the end down (I used lacing cord, but a tie wrap would have been faster).
Nearly decided to leave the window permanently up rather than spend the money for a new regulator...

Compared to some that I've seen, the cracks in the plastic of your regulator is not too bad. The purpose of using the metal bracket, in the fix, is to take the stresses off of the plastic and put it on the metal bracket instead. You should not have any trouble if you decide to fix it.

For what it is worth, I used a hose clamp and a piece of rubber to hold mine up. I found that I just dobn't use th rear windows in either my bonnie or my Aurora, so I just disconnected the electrics to the window and have never replaced the regulator. The reason for the failure in the first place was the kids just screwing around with it........which for me meant it would happen again

Default Rear window regulator & motor

I just bought this on the internet for $68.00 and had my favorite repair shop do the install for $80.00! They could not tell the difference between the original, ($200.00 on GMpartsdirect) and my $68.00 part.

Purchased @ www.doctorautoparts.com

By the way, in 2005 my left rear went out and my regular shop fixed it for a part price of $319 and labor of $75.00!

Bob, where did you get your replacement regulator from on the 'net? That'* the cheapest price I've heard of so far--I'd like to see what else they offer.

Looks like you bought the regulator at the right time, Bob. I see that the price for the rears is now $99, which is what they are at 1A Auto before shipping.

Rob,
I screwed-up! I bought it at www.doctorautoparts.com not ZBRA!
I made the mistake of asking my wife to look up the paper work, and she gave me the wrong info. Sorry.
I'm going to change the link.
i just checked with Doctor and they are still $68.00, but out of stock right now.
