Hey guys, Yeah the master switch is the one in the driver'* door. It comes out as one unit, it controls the windows, the mirrors, and the door locks.

Nope the passenger window won't work if the master switch is bad. Well, perhaps I should say the master switch being bad can cause the other windows not to work.

If you have knowledge of the electrics in the door maybe check the switch first, as the master switch is about an $80. part. And depending on the dealer they may not take it back. hey try GMpartsdirect.com first they may have it at wholesale!!. As I said in the post it fixed my front windows, my back ones have failed now. The regulators are bad in the back ones, though.

One other thing make sure your connector is securely plugged in. That was causing part of my trouble.

Much luck.

Tim

I checked into the problem today. I could hear the click on the door, so it appeared as if the switches and door module were woking ok. After pulling the panel, I disconnected the connection at the motor and hooked it to the motor from my broken window regulator, and it worked fine.

I removed the motor drive assembly from the rest of the regulator. When the last screw was removed, it made a little pop, and the assembly turned counter-clockwise maybe 15 degrees. I was able to push the window up and down, but with a little bit of effort. I sprayed some white lithium grease on the slide, cables and gears - put it back together and everything works fine. One down, one to go. :o

Good troubleshooting, glad you have resolved that problem. It ended up being that the window was mechanicly bound up then. Motor, door switches, door modules all good.

Yep, everything else was working fine, just the windows wouldn't work. Whether or not it would have started working ok without the lubrication, I don't know. It did seem to move better once it was lubed up. It was bound up pretty good, though. Thanks for your advice.

I went to tackle the window problem on the other car today....got all the stuff ready, but decided to test to see if I could hear the click in the door before diving into it. I was shocked to see the window go down. At least it saved me the trouble of tearing it apart.

That makes this whole thing even stranger. The window on my car quit...a day later it quit in the other car. I fixed the window in my car, a day later the window works fine in the other! Can cars have "symapthy pains"?

...lol...goodness, it almost seems to be that huh? Perhaps in that one the connector or something is loose...after a few bumps in the road, the problem may re-appear.

My car obviously sat for a long time (5 yrs old w/only 31k when I got it). None of my passenger doors had power of any sort. Turned out the main wires/connectors were green and corroded...dealer replaced it for me...

Yeah, I'd imagine that sooner or later the problem will reappear. In the meantime, maybe I'll send it off to counseling. Or, my daughter just got her PhD in psychology. Maybe I'll have her talk to it when she comes up for Thanksgiving!
