That mechanic is ripping u a new one... way to high.

I found a mobile mechanic that put in my Head unit dvd player and he say he would charge me half of what that mechanic quoted me. He said for me to just buy the parts and he would come to me and fix the issues. So I need to know a priority of which I need to fix first.

If your loosing coolant. I suggest doing the LIM gaskets first.

Now as this may sound too good to be true be careful, make sure he knows what he'* doing dont let him half *** his work.

An Alignment should be $40-50 at majority of shops especially our cars. a computer must do it. so keep looking for a better priced shop. take your quote and show other mechanics see if they will agree they need to be fixed and see by how much they'll beat it. get a quote take it to the next shop., get estimates... different shops will be better on different things, and obviously different vehicles. there'* a reason why people shop around. labor varies from shop to shop.

-the best piece of advice i could give if is go get a service manual, like Haynes or Chilton'*.
-then if you don't already have tools go to sears pick up a 300pc. set so you have the tools to do 75% of anything that will ever have to be done.

even if you've never worked on a car before its time to learn. dont be afraid to jump into something and tackle it, follow the step by step and ask us questions.


-Replace drive belt $120 - Obivious to keep up on maintance but seriously a belt cost $30, 30 minutes to put it on.

-Passenger outer tie rod end $120 - Seems Reasonable they can be a PITA

-Front end alignment $79 - $50 MAX

-Drivers side blend door actuator $330 - If i recall correctly you can visibly see this actuator from looking up at the center console from the driverside floor, I cant see it costing more then $150

-Right front strut mount $286 - How bad is it? why so much to change? I bet a strut mount is under $50 bucks

-Reseal intake manifold $650 - Shop around...

-Reseal power steering pump $340? - how bad is the leak? is it something that a bottle of steering fluid with stop leak could fix?

-Tune-up $300 - Whats all being done? sure seems like a lot considering they are trying to get you for $150 on a fuel treatment that im sure a $15 bottle of seafoam couldnt fix...

Fuel system treatment $149? seafoam it

Replace drivers side axle $320? - based on what? why does it need to be changed?

there are somethings that just arnt worth replacing too, its a used car. just my opinion.

First things I need to do is stop the leaks on the driveway. I know there is at least power steering fluid, radiator coolant and oil leaking out of the car these NEED to be fixed first, and also the heat in the car is a major issue. A tune up can wait, and the other repairs can wait the car still drives fine now.

sounds to me like you should just junk the car and get a new one,that is an awful lot of work to be done with 156k,just from you saying the car is leaking oil,anitfreeze and power steering fluid i would suspect the engine is shot,i have a 2001 with 135k only problem i have is a couple electric issues i can not seem to figure out.

here is an update:

My mechanic JT came by and looked at the car, and said someone mixed the dex-cool green coolant with the yellow kind which supposedly is a nono and will cause the heater core to clog up with a rust like substance. So he suggested to flush the radiator system and try to blow out the heater core. He also said that is why my heat isnt working in the cllimate control in the car. Also he did confirm that the LIM gasket needs replaced it is leaking the coolant, and he said that is a labor intensive task, you basically have to remove the entire engine to get to it. He did manage to fix my horn by replacing the fuse in the fuse box that was blown for the horn! He charged me 60 bucks for his time coming out and diagnosing the problems. He wants to charge me 150 for the flush and blow out of the heater core if it can be saved. Any thoughts on this. What should I do, Ideas would be great for starters. I need to save money as best I can.

you don't have to remove the engine to do the manifold gaskets that BS!!!
stop calling this guy use our write ups on fixing this stuff it'* not too hard.
go get the 300 piece craftsman tool kit and start doing the work the LIM in your car will take about 4 hours maybe less we have the torque specs also for when you put it back together

Ummm. NO.

If he was local to me, I could have had that entire list done in about 2-3 days. Pending how ACCURATE the list is. Some of those things may not need to be done.
If you had done your research, you would already know that these engines (from the factory) are born to leak(due to **** poor engineering). His car only needs a few $$ and alot of TLC, and he could put another 100K on that car.

Stinger, you REALLLLLLLLLY need to stop using this guy. You have access to what? 20 people on here that know 3000times more about Bonnevilles than your current mechanic. If we say we can get you to change a belt and save you $75, then we can save you money. But you need to have trust in us to help you. We are here to help!
