Given the fact that a dealer will charge me $78 just to put it on a Tech2, I think I will skip that option.
I am always leary about taking the dash apart because it will probably cause squeaks and rattles once it goes back together (known from experience).
This job might have to go on my "I'll do that some day" list. You know, that list that every Bonnie owner has.

If a dash rattle is a concern, you probably need not worry. These are built quite a bit better than in past years. I've had mine apart a number of times without a problem. You are much more likely to have a rattle or noise problem by removing door panels.
The other consideration of course it there'* no guarantee the cadmium sulfide photocell in the HUD is the problem. It'* certainly a possibility but you may get it taken all apart and still not resolve the problem.

I've been dealing with this for a while now too. I replaced my twilight sensor, no effect. I bought a used dimmer switch assy but haven't put it in yet. It sounds like the solder joint is the culprit for me too...
