I believe those cars have the 4t65e-hd. Yes, they are a good transmission.

97-03 SSEi'* had the 4T65E HD trans.

It'* a pretty good transmission overall. Like everything it had it'* flaws. A couple of the most widely known issues 2000+ were the pressure control soleniod and 4th gear clutch shaft. The clutch shaft was a known issue since it'* appearance in 97. Supposedly recitified in 2003....be wary though a couple of 03 cars built in 11/02 were found not to have the shaft, which leads us to the question...when did they run out of non-hardened 4th gear shafts and put the hardened ones in place?

Overall though..it'* good, and extremely common.
