Help... Bad tensioner, how can I tell?
Okay guys, help me out.
How much force should the tensioner be putting on the belt? How much torque is required to pull the tensioner back? I guess the basic question is - How do I know if I have a bad tensioner/ bad spring?
I have belt squeak on the SC pulley that could be a number of things, and I AM going to track down the source this weekend. I know how to check all the pulleys, and coupler. Based on all the threads I have read over the past week, I have a good idea of all the troublespots that could cause the sound. Sorry for the noob question please help.

Well the Tensioner isn't bad, and I tracked down the squeak. The upper idler pulley on the SC belt is most likely the cause. It seems to wiggle about 1/16th of and inch, along with the fact that it looks almost warped slightly when turning it. This is the the third post that I feel like a complete moron after getting under the hood myself. But, lessons learned.

If your pulley is squeaking....don't wait very long before you change it,....I've heard of the bearing in them heating up and self-destructing the plastic pulley while going down the highway, causing Mucho damage to under-hood components as the belt flys off. There are also metal(aluminum?) replacement pulleys available(a non-GM part,...NAPA,Autozone,Pepboys,I think) which are supposed to be better than the original........

Thanks for the update. I am going to try to replace the pulley either this weekend or next. I definitely plan on getting an aluminum one.
