Default Front seat question

The driver'* seat on my car doesn't go as far back as the passenger seat with there being maybe 1 1/2 " difference. Is this normal or should I be looking for something? I've looked as best I can under there and don't see anything obvious that would be physically holding it from going back any further.

Kind of strange considering I couldn't see anything blocking the seat when looking in from the front or the back and with the seat in either the forward or back position but today, I stuck my hand down alongside the seat and pulled out what appeared to be a piece of pretzel. Voila, the seat now retracts the same as the passenger one. I wouldn't have thought something like a pretzel wouldn't have done that.
Moral of the story, I suppose, is to not eat in the car.
