Default Driving with MAF disconnected

I got to the shop and got my car back tonight. I forget who posted that the 2000 SSEi could be driven with the MAF disconnected....but thanks, that worked. It'll be a few days till I get the replacement MAF. Can the car be driven 40+ miles per day for a few days till I get the replacement? Or am I going to find myself stranded on the roadside again if I try to do this?

Thanks

Yes, you can drive a bunch of miles with the maf disconnected. That is actually one of the things done when tuning a car. You disconnect the maf, drive a couple of cycles and then continue doing so while tuning. Once you are done tuning you reconnect.

I've logged probably 200+ miles without the maf connected. When you doso, the pcm defaults to the table data. It may idle rough or attempt to stall a couple times, but once it starts learning it should be fine.

Many thanks for the reply. I now feel much safer headed to work today. I just didn't want to be stranded while servers are down and I'm expected to be there....not trying to get another tow.

It got me to work OK. Odd thing is when I took it home last night, it started fine, ran smooth as silk and had no problems...hence the thought I could drive to work. The thing I noticed last night was I had no "service engine soon" light. So when I shut the car off, I put the key to run to see the lights on the dash test and make sure the SES bulb wasn't burnt out. It wasn't. It came on with everything else.

Fast forward to this morning. I start the car and it'* a little rough...very little, but a little, and the SES light is now on! Odd, no light last night, but the SES is on now. I pull out of the driveway and it stumbles a little, but as said, it learned the deal and the stumble was gone in less than a mile.

So, why did it NOT set a SES light and run super smooth the night before? Is this just my car tryiong to torture me into selling it by raising my stress level to heart attack status? I just can't get beyond the old 3.8 Buick Turbo....that engine I know how to work on. These series II motors are killing me. Special scan tools, weird codes, etc. Maybe I'm too old for a new-fangled car like this.
