Thank you Mark! So...back to the original question regarding "can I buy a plastic frame and do I need it?" I would have to say no, you don't need it but it'* obviously better otherwise they wouldn't have changed the design and made it an option.

OE, the frame comes with the element...
Get the Cadillac Deville element...it'* a charcoal element versus the standard filter...
