Default air bag will deploy???

Hey guys...I was getting a new ( used bought from Ed Morad ) Windshield wiper switch ( inside the car ) because every time I would push the button for fluid to come out it would blow the fuse. So my mechanic tried putting in a new motor, but that wasn't it..So he said it has to be the eletric or the lever, so I bought the lever and all the wiring from Ed. He was going to put it in this past weekend and I thought he did cause it was working fine and they said they filled it half way and used it all to test and it worked fine. But all they did was mess with the wiring. I don't know exactly what though.

But the reason they said they couldn't put it in because they said they would have to take the steering wheel column off and that would deploy the air-bag. Is that true???

Preventive measures to keep from deploying an air bag.
Always disconnect your battery before doing any work.
Never use a test light to probe wires, use a good multimeter or a non inductive test light if you must use one.
If it'* has a yellow connector, loom, or wrap it normally is related to the SIR system leave it alone unless you have no other choice.
