Andrew..Let me get more info... but Thomas from AZGP had mentioned in the thread I started that one of them had mismounted the PS pump at one time. Maybe there are multiple positions.

Looks like this problem is getting closer to being solved.

Hmmmm...intersting...

What parts are you using from what vehicle? Specifically the Power Steering Pump and Tensioner/Alt Bracket/Heater components?

The tensioner bracket is different on the GTP, very similar but not identicle. I didn't realise there may be a different in Power Steering Pumps either, that said, both of these assemblies obviously mount to the same holes on the engine.

In case you have mixed components, I would suggest you use the Bonneville Tensioner Assembly and Power Steering Pump if you're not already. But I'm sure this is the root of your problem, you must be using the GTP Tensioner Assembly, right?

Cheers,

Ok, looked at my car with a friend and my friend told me a story about one day he miss mounted his alt, didn't realize it until he couldn't get the belt on... it was a 3800. Yep same motor. 1989 La sabre.

Check the mounting of the parts.

Actually, one day I miss mounted my PSpump. Doh..!!!!

You can't actually 'miss-mount' the pump, there are 2 bolt holes in the block and the corresponding 2 holes in the pump at the 12 o'clock and 5:30 positions relative to the center of the pulley (maybe slightly offset to the right of center).

Either the pump is mounted correctly or it'* not.

Cheers,
