Personally I'd put in a used motor from a junkyard with a warranty. The car isn't worth enough money to spend on a factory reman, that'* simply ridiculous to suggest unless you are going to offer up your employee discount. At the current time I would suggest continuing with the viscosity you are currently using.
Instead of using the word "ridiculous", I'm going to say (I politely disagree).

An engine is not worn out until the oil pressure goes to zero and locks up. For the mild piston slap on the high mileage engine, I would suggest switching to a 10W-40 oil and the use of a quality filter with a silicone anti-drainback valve; like a WIX or NAPA GOLD.
