Instead of using the word "ridiculous", I'm going to say (I politely disagree).

An engine is not worn out until the oil pressure goes to zero and locks up. For the mild piston slap on the high mileage engine, I would suggest switching to a 10W-40 oil and the use of a quality filter with a silicone anti-drainback valve; like a WIX or NAPA GOLD.
