Thats what I thought. Obviously, the one from Ed'* wont have the pitting Well, I guess this project is on hold till I get the LIM from Ed'*. Thanks for all the advice. Should I be concerned with the used part being warped or any other issues ? When I get it should I simply inspect, clean it up, and install right?

At the least, I would check it with a straightedge.

Default -Update

First off - Thanks to everyone who threw in their wisdom. I have learned a lot in the last 2 weeks. My son and I just got Bufford back together. I think the repair was very successful. We have no leaks. Everything is good. I used Bill buttermore'* Coolant refill procedure, it worked great.

Observation - we have a little smoke coming from the front exhaust / crossover joint that sits just under the TB. I believe that to be coolant that is inside the exhaust pipe - left over from the hydrolock. Does this sound reasonable to you guys ? It'* almost burned out/off.

Problem - We have a fast idle problem. Car will not idle under 2000 rpm. I did clean the TB per the instructions on this site. I will admit I removed the TPS thinking it was the IAC to try to remove the grime down in that little pocket. It there a chance I didn't get it put back in there right ?

Any suggestions would be great. Thanks again everyone. I might need a tube of Ben-Gay for my back

I'll buy the coolant problem.

On the fast idle, pull the oil fill cap at idle and see if it'* sucking the world'* air supply. If so, put the 2nd o-ring back on the PCV valve. It should have 2.

Will,

Well I figured out part of the problem. I actually left the PCV in the old UIM I cleaned that up and put it in, and now it'* idling @ 1400 - 1500. You mentioned a second O ring. I'm pretty sur eI got everything back in there now, but I'll go pull the oil cap and check into that....Thanks !!!

One thing I forgot to mention...SES light. that'* probably where I should start huh. I'll run to Autozone tomorrow and let them tell me what it is. thanks again. I pulled the oil cap...no air getting sucked.

Ran to AZ this morning. they scanned - 3 different codes. One for TPS, and the other 2 were related to high idle. He told me that this was probably due to the bad TPS. bought TPS came home shut car off, removed + battery cable, removed and replaced TPS let car set for 15 minutes, reinstalled battery cable and started. Car idel low, but seemed to be missing running rough. I let it run for 30 seconds or so and gave a little twist on the accelerator. Engine smoothed out and idle was up to 1500 - 1600. Let it run (idle) for 10 + minutes, all it did was stay steady at that mark. told my son to run it down the highway 5miles and back at least 65 miles per hour. came back it'* now idling the same 1600 +. SES light still on too. One other thing worth mentioning, there was a little nut screw thing that seemed like it was the throttle stop. I loosend the locking nut, and tried moving the little screw out maybe a couple turns, but it had no effect on the idle speed and so I put it back were it was.

I'm stumped, other than going back to AZ, but I'm a little pissed that the TPS didn't fix the problem. Ideas ?

JR,

Thanks for the quick reply. Ummmm yes sir I did clean the iac with cleaner. I thought it was ok to leave in there while cleaning the TB. looking at the procedure I don't recall anything about taking it out. should I have? So you thik this is it? IAC sensor? I don't recall the codes. He went through them so fast, I asked him about the codes and he wasn't real customer focused like he should have been.
