Related to this topic, if your tranny starts acting funny, such as going from 3rd to od, and it doesnt shift for a few long seconds, then shifts HARD, and the SES light comes on,....what does that tell ya? the hard shift sometimes has a "clunk" to it? It would be sorta random, and it'* only done it 2 maybe three times w/ in a 2 week period, that I can remember, but they definatly MADE an impression!

off topic the VSS has something to do with the controling the tranny to by means of telling the PCM what gear you are in and so on and so forth

The only thing the VSS does is create a pulse for the PCM, the PCM then turns this into vehicle speed... This is the only thing the VSS does.... The PCM controls the tranny as far as gear control and at what speed depending on diffrent load factors... There are also diffrent switches in the transmission for 2nd, 3rd and 4th gear that tells the PCM that the tranny is in that gear... If there is a loss of VSS signal to the tranny then chances are the tranny may go into limp home mode, with out the VSS the trans will not shift either..

At this point there are a few possibilities as to what the problem may be... I replaced my off color VSS a few years ago because of crankiness....

what tell the pcm its in what gear then i just doesnt know off hand
maybe the Neutral safety switch

So, the pot hole... could that have cracked the tranny or put a hole in it?

Adding fluid, and it works fine....... I say you might have a leak.... keep the level good on the tranny, and start it, and look for any kind of leaks.....

Could be the high pressure line from the tranny to the radiator/cooler thats leaking.....

As well as preventing you from starting the car in any other gear besides park or neautral, some cars do actually show what gear is selected(meaning what gear you actually have the shift lever in), I think this is also called the transmission range switch...

The PCM at the right speeds will command the tranny solenoids in a manner that will start the car off in first gear, I think its actually solenoids A and B off(not sure)... But there is a switch for 2nd,3rd and 4th gears inside the transmission so that the PCM will know the tranny is in the proper gear... and without the 3rd or 4th gear switch, chances are that the tranny will shift, but there will be no TCC apply and the SES light will most likely illuminate...
So bottom line is,..i need to scan for codes 1st thing. Then go from there, right?
