Well, better filters always say they can get like 5-10 more hp. Why not just take the whole damn thing off and guarantee about 10 more hp? lol
I took mine off just to see what was there and it'* just a hole with a metal screen covering it. So you need the intake filter, and a screen? Seems like the airflow is very limited there. Anyways i took the whole hose off just to see how the car woudl drive up the street, didn't really notice a difference, didn't want to drive like that too long, wasnt sure what keeping that thing off would do.
My guess is it would gum up the valves with alot of dirt and crap. O ye for like 300 bucks I saw on a website theres a supercharger filter you can buy lol, I'm guessing it pushes air into your engine and it guarantees at least 10 hp lol.

no, its not a good idea to run around without a filter on ur car. Your guess was right. All types of impurities would wind up in your engine and the damage wouldn't be worth the extra "gain" in HP...
and i'm not exactly sure how there'* a filter for a supercharger? But the supercharger naturally pushes air into the cylinders...
any other ideas on this?

It certainly doesn't hurt to help your car breath better, but you absolutely want to filter that air somehow. That'* why so many people DO buy and install the better quality, hi-flowing air filters, such as K&N. Do a quick but focused search here on CAI, ricer intake tube, or custom intake tube and you'll see the successful ways to improve your cars breathing without endangering your engine.
