I never had this in my 93, but a 92 i extensively test drove had this problem. Never happend to me (the tranny did die on me though) but the owner was honest about it.

This problem seems to be confined to mostly 92s.

'92 SSEi with this problem BIG TIME.The wife refuses to drive it if less than 1/3 tank. If parked facing downhill gets no fuel if less than 1/2 tank. If no obstruction can coast with no engine or steering to level ground then it starts & runs fine.

Have owned this car since new. Has done this since the first year. I presumed it was a problem with the fuel pickup not reaching the bottom of the tank except if cruising level & straight down the interstate can run the guage to empty without it coughing.

Is there a common solution? Is this a pump/pickup problem? Is it loose baffles in the tank?

Ask Along if his solution worked permanently. Sounds like he put in a new pump and fuel filters.

my car has it too...turning RIGHT...w/ under 1/4 tank....seemed to clear up a little bit when i put a new fuel filter in

So what is the concensus on this issue, I have the problem on my 1992 SSE only on right hand turns when below 1/4 tank of fuel. SHould I attempt to find a fuel tank out of a more recent model? Should I replace the fuel pump?

The baffles in the fuel tank are the problem. A 93 tank is a direct fit, and 94/5 would be close if not direct as well. Nt sure about the 96-99. Get the fuel pump too, as yours has been stressed because of the lack of fuel that killed it.

DeathRat had posted the solution to this issue, but the solution was lost when the server went down. The solution has to do with an improperly installed strainer. Hopefully he can repost the TSB right here.
