Ok, here's what I was talking about with the fuel tank. If you look carefully, you'll see there's a shallow part on the driver's side. Makes less room for the fuel to slosh up there in a right hand turn, BUT......with the larger volume on the right side, it makes it easier for the fuel to slosh up the right side of the tank in a left turn. You have to look carefully. This view is from the rear of the car:

Having a problem on Left turns may make sense to you based on the drawing of the fuel tank, but I can tell you that my '92 SSE s/c stumbles on Right turns only when there's less than 1/2 or 1/4 tank of gas. I've never tried to see if I could stall the engine by continuing to accelerate when this happens. Instead, I always slow down until the power seems to return.

And my '93 SSEi has never had this problem since I bought it 4 years ago.

So does anyone know if there was a recall on the '92? I've been hoping to find a solution for this safety problem since I first noticed it on my '92.

no idea. and hector i have changed my fuel filter a couple times int he last 30000k. it does happen on both left and right turns for me.....and i dont think you can actually stall the engine out its more of a pusht eh pedal down and no gas is sending. you always have to wait a couple seconds and then bang power again.

My problem happens both on left and right turns. Also when I come to a stop or a slow down. Sometimes it will just stall, others it will shut off completely.

I have that problem!! I have a 92 and the only difference is, mine stalls whenever it feels like it, goin straight, turning left, turning right, or at a stop sign ......im so used to it, its almost funny now ...but like I said in an earlier post, it only happens in weather of 40 degrees and up :) <smiling because its cold outside

I had this on my old 1992 SE. It did it going left, right, medium-heavy decel, medium-heavy accell. It was a total pain. I changed my fuel pump twice thinking it was weak. I also changed the FPR once. Never got it fixed. It did this the last 40,000 miles I drove the car before I was rear ended. What a nuisance. I was getting very frustrated with it. My mom's 1992 Park Avenue ultra SC doesn't do it. As for my brother's 1992 SSE n/a he hasn't really driven it being he hasn't had a chance to put the rear bumper cover on it since he got it three weeks ago.
I live with my parents yet (yah, i'd like to move back out, but after being laid off at 3 jobs last year I only brought home $7500 last year, down from $31 the previous year) with one brother and one sister and there is a total of 7 1988-1995 3800 car's that are driven at least 3-4 times a week and in the last 10 years my family member's (there are 10 kids) have had approx 20+ 1988-1995 3800 car's and only my 1992 Bonneville SE (RIP) had that problem (I drove that car 100,000 miles and other than that I only changed plugs, plug wires, 02 sensor, and serpentine belt).
Enough bandwidth used here. I'll look for something I'll be usefull for.

I have that problem on my 92 ssei when i turn RIGHT and give it a little it seems to cut out and die if im under half a tank of gas....i have no clue what the prob is fuel filter maybe?

92ssei 04-24-2003 03:28 AM

i still get this problem..im thinking on upgrading my fuel system to something not sure yet...maybe i can get some ideas here...but would it be due to some lack of pressure in the tank once it gets low? still happens on turns both ways usually longer turns then short and only happens on the bottom bit of my tank but still over 1/4 tank and under 1/2

I have a '92 SE, but never experienced the problems listed in this post.

I have driven it hard around corners with less than 1/4 tank many times.

I checked alldata.com and came up with the following TSB:

92655 JUL 92 Fuel - Momentary Loss of Power Hesitation On Turns

The title seems to suggest it is fuel related.

Maybe someone has access to the full TSB?...

Never had a problem with it
