Can I not leave the PROM in a 92 ECM and just plug the ECM into the car?

That'* what I was saying, get a 92 PCM. If you can't find one, get a PCM from another car that uses it, and put your PROM into it.

Today we got an ECM out of a lesabre and plugged it in with it'* prom still intact and the car started right up. Drove all over, and no CEL. Idles perfect and no codes. Everything seems too perfect now that the ECM is swapped out. I hope it stays running like this!

Default pcm

Glad to hear it is working well so far.
You still should swap your prom into the new PCM.
It has all the calibrations for tire size, gear ratio'* etc.
