ok i remove the panel above the pedals....all the wires under there and by where the switch should be located are grounded to the metal parts of the car. With no lights coming on when I pull the switch to the first level and only the headlights on the second...it looks pretty much like the headlight switch is faulty. What do you think???

take your switch out, see if you have 12v on the red. see if you have continuity on the switch pin that had the red to the pin that had the yellow when the switch is in the parking light position. if not it bad.

thanks for all your help ...I figured out the problem. It was a faulty wire harness to the headlight switch. Lucky i found a similar car at the 3rd junk yard i went to and was able to swap out the harnesses. thanks again

I had a similar problem with my 97 Lumina The security light would come on and it wasn't long before the engine wouldn't start. i could start it for a few seconds by jumping the solenoid on the starter. someone told me to clean the VATS I used rubbing alcohol on the key and the key slot. So i did and it worked fine for a while and than the problem would appear again. Then one day i bought some ice cream and made a hour or so stop, put my car keys with the ice cream (so I wouldn't forget the ice cream) in the freezer. WaLa haven't had the security light come on since, no trouble starting, it'* been months without any problem....freezing the key worked ...for me ???
