i got stuck in snow and was rocking the car. well i lose forward and then reverse
what is weird is it will switch gears and hit the reverse rev limiter so i know it is switcing gears still when i gun the engine the speedo will move a lil but no movement
i can hear a spinning behind the wheels
is this a tranny or an axle/halfshaft issue
any help is appreciated in advance.. aaron

Sounds like the differential has gone out. I had this happen to mine once. This is a tranny rebuild, no way around it (if it is the differential). I'll see if I can find pics of mine when it went. Also, my guess is after reving the engine in gear, if you put it back into park aroun 5-10mph on the speedo, you will hear some grinding noise (don't try this with the speedo any higher incase it is it / don't want to frag what is left).
Here is what happened to mine. Yours may not be as obvious. Any leaking fluid (levels ok)?

Well, first time I had the tranny rebuilt (yea, that'* right, done it a few times
) it was about $2200 to have mine completely rebuilt. This is not a new tranny, but the current one gutted and refitted. The second time I bought one at a junk yard (low miles) for around $400 and had a local guy install it for about $200. Both transmissions have run equally good. I did frag the rebuilt one too after 30,000 miles (hence the JY tranny). I guess manually shifting an automatic at every light while floored is a bad thing. I have sence learned my lesson.
Second thought... May be a half shaft issue too. Might be worth having a tranny shop at least inspect it. A broken half shaft could usually be fixed without affecting the tranny. That would be a ton cheaper too (>$200) if it is the half shaft.
