I just got my car back from the shop and they say they can't find anything wrong with it. I took it in because every once in a while after a long drive I cant get it to start. The starter works fine but I can't hear the fuel pump when it happens. The fuel pump was changed a year ago. The pump seemed a little loud after it was replaced (you could hear it from several feet away) sometimes when I turn the key on without cranking the fuel pump stays on and doesnt shut off. I replaced the filter but there was no change.
Could the FPR or evaporative canister be my problem?

It appears that something may be heating up after a long drive and contributing to the "no start".

You could pull the vacuum line off of the Fuel pressure regulator and see if any fuel is present in the line.

What about your power windows and locks? Do they still work when it won't start?

On my way to pick up my wife from work it kinda shuddered and the SES came on. Maybe now I'll have a code to work on. But to answer your question the electrical seemed fine. New battery, new alternator, the starter would engage normally.

Even though the pump was changed a year ago, a loud fuel pump and "not starting when warm" may point to an impending faliure. I would also check any electrical connections (that you can see) to the pump. Maybe something in the electrical conenction is getting hot causing the pump to be flakey.

That fuel pump sounded bad from the beginning. I didn't see any fuel in the line to the FPR.

I changed the Oil pressure sender about a year ago. But it could still be bad, it fluctuates sorta randomly. There seems to be so many possible causes.

Oil Pressure sender
CAM sensor
Crank sensor
Cam gear magnet
fuel pressure
Vacuum leak

If you can elimanate any of these or add to them feel free. I got a check engine light a while ago and my mechanic is looking into it. He says the codes are jumping around. Like maybe a short in the wiring harness.

Now he can't find anything wrong with it again. I haven't had the best of experiences with the local GMC dealer. They replaced a 400 dollar alternator for what later turned out to be a fuse. I'm thinking this may be my only option.
