Thanks Todd. I was doing it outside in the dark with a flashlight. I'll do it tomorrow during the day. I also realise that my compressor and the cooling fans are not coming on. Do you think this is part of the problem also?

Your A/C compressor will not come on until around 54 degrees outside. And your fans are not going to come on until your engine temp reaches 234 degrees or so as well.

i know i'm off by a little on the numbers but close.

Thanks for the info on the compressor and fans. So I am suppose to just push the the door to the right for full heat or disconnect the rod altogether? I am going to use a metal hanger.

How did you guys fix your nipples??? lol being serious here. When I pulled the vaccuum plug off I can see the the soft nipples are sucking closed. Is it ok If I just take off the very tip of the nipple off so that it doesnt suck closed so easily? How did you guys fix it? Thanks.

The door has a spring on it so when the gear in the actuator breaks the door pulls itself shut to full heat. Gm's little way of saying "we know this is going to break sometime so lets make it default to full heat so they have heat in the winter"
sometimes works sometimes not.

If I where you I would disconnect the rod from the actuator so you have heat.

But here is a little test to make for sure your actuator is broken. With the arm/rod still attached to the actuator, try moving the arm of the actuator right to left..with the rod still attached. If it moves freely than yes your air mix actuator has a broken gear and does need replacing.
If you cannot move the arm than something else failed.
