Default newbie with a problem

hey folks I am new here,I purchased a 1993 bonneville se,which the wife drove for 3 yrs,,sad I know,,lol.anyways I have since purchased a van, which she wants to drive more often now, because she picks up the grand kids,so she handed me the keys to the car, anyways just curious,I noticed something hanging underneath the rear right tire, and when I looked underneath,it looks like the bracket for the sway bar rotted off, just wondering if it can be welded,,I noticed the frame has a lot of rust being it was a canadian car (ontario) and we use a lot of road salt, also is it worth fixing ,or will it lose strength in that part of the frame, dont want to have a bad accident ,or get any of my grand kids hurt driving in the car with me.

Thanks a newbie with a 93 bonneville se,hunter green,and 155,000 miles on it.

Can you take a pic of it? Is it just the endlink bolt, or the actual suspension that rotted? Compare it to the other side.

Endlinks are easily replaced. Try this topic for some helpful reference pics:

Oh my god, someone finally with the same problem my old 93 SSEi had, it was from Ontario as well.
My sway bar mounts were still in tact, but they weren't far from breaking through. I feel you pain on that one..or did..hehe

Hello
I am a newbie also but just with bonnevilles, Thats a pretty loaded part of the suspension when cornering and is usually pretty strong unit, I would find a local person that does welding and have him look at it and inspect the rest of the undercarriage to judge how much rot you have there.

Default re-previous post

hey guys:
like I said I am a newbie, and by no means a mechanic,,but I was told by some guys at work it is the mounting bracket for the stabalizer bar, that mounts onto the frame, the whole mount rotted off the frame, and I called a few shops to se if it could be welded, and you would think I asked for a miracle,,some said NO!,some said good luck finding a place, others said you might be lucky and find a backyard mechanic that would perform this task, but no one wants to touch it,,because it involves welding to the fram, and they say it is to rusted, but from what i see,if they welded a steel plate roughly 1 foot on either side where it rotted off then they could just re-weld the bracket to that steel plate,Like I said I am not a mechanic, and dont pretend to be one,,but can this job be done or ,Is this car on its last leg, thanks
