New fan motor, time with son, loud noise? priceless?
It seems to me that something isn't quite right. If it were me, I'd be taking it back off and checking things over pretty well for signs of something rubbing. I'd also check the free spinning of the fan to see if it'* something in the motor itself.
I'd also check to see if there is something in your housing that maybe got moved during the install and is rubbing.
All else fails, take it back as defective.

Ugh. That is no fun to take in and out let me tell you. I bet for you hard core guys its a piece of cake. Ill settle then for three bars untill I get another job done. CV joints on a 99 626. Someone send me info on how to do those please.
