I finally got the car back from the shop and dug the cable out while loading it like a jeep (firewood, tents, sleeping bags and stuff). Then I finally looked at it. It'* got a UHAUL logo on it, so it'* for towing. It must have had a hitch added and removed in the two years before I got it. Is there a way to see if they actually upgraded anything to handle towing?

I mean, I'm at 200,000 and if it towed some stuff it wasn't supposed to, this car'* done incredibly well.

I just don't remember looking at it other than to move it out of the way.

Did they add a trans cooler? Can you see 4 holes under the rear of the car in the unibody under the trunk? If so, you might want to plug them.

No trans cooler but I still need to check for holes. Or I should install a trans cooler, upgrade the suspension to handle the load, and get a hitch installed to tow some stuff I want t Jeep for. If I keep it much longer I'll need to replace the suspension anyway.

He'* in Colorado. Don't ask how I know that.

Bjorn, be careful how much you tow, especially if that'* the original trans. You're right at the typical limit for mileage on an L27/4T60. Most fail between 150k and 180k the first time.

I tow (click on my sig pic to see some pics of my hitch), but I have 2 transmission coolers (one came on the car, I added the other), and a trans temp gauge. It'* scary how the trans temps can spike when towing, especially in the summer. I pull a light utility trailer (well, lightly LOADED) only.

I built Matilda for heavy capacity, but light weight. All tubular steel. 5'2" x 8'4" inside dimensions. Sorry, in these pics I didn't have the side rails on yet, but imagine three 2x6'* running around the inside horizontally.

I'm posting the pics to give you an idea of what I'm talking about. This trailer EMPTY at 55mph for 15 minutes will raise my trans temps 30-50 degrees depending on summer temps.

I'm in Ohio.

If I'm risking losing my transmission just driving it, I'll just let it ride, then. I was just pondering the possibilities.

I'm going to probably get to just above 200k and I'll move to something new in the off-road vehicle market. My girlfriend is an electrical engineer for International in the design group. I'm trying to get her to talk some of the marketing people to give me a CXT, RXT, or MXT for the summer and winter to take caching. They've got all these shiny pictures and pictures with loads. They need some recreational photos in the real world.

The reason I ask is because I still have this boat anchor (tow hitch)..but shipping is probably too expensive.

My 95 SSEi was used to tow a good sized boat. Apparently no permanent damage was done....I'm at 153K
