Well I was driving the car on the interstate yesterday and all of a sudden it started knocking, horribly. The temp shot up, the SES light came on and it stalled. I got it back running again and continued on which i know was no help, but i had to get as close to work as I could and the merging interstate would be safer if something went for good. I get the car to work, by this time you almost can't hear yourself the knock is so loud, and now the car stalls out and will not crank what so ever. So she is dead. I don't think it has thrown the rod yet but what do i check for? Can it be fixed at this point or am I looking at a used engine or rebuild? please advise

Pull the dipstick and observe the oil.. I'm betting you'll see something besides clean oil.

Most likely it'* time for another motor. Things to be careful of is whether or not you have an EGR.

All SSEi'* have an EGR regardless of year.

Driving it further sealed it'* fate. You should have shut down immediately.

Your cheapest option is a wrecker motor from 91-93. Be advised you may have to keep your HB if you get a 91 or 93. I don't recall exactly, but I think 91-92 are the same, 93 is different (just make sure).

HB= Harmonic Balancer

Supercharged engine came out in 1991 IIRC....for the Park Ave Ultra. But please be aware looking for a JY motor isn't easy for an S1. Mileage is pretty hard to verify on most due to digital odometers.
