Keep us posted. Yours would be the first HUD failure I've heard of here.

Default HUD failure

... would hate to be the first on this one .... 1st time poster

Have a '94 SSEi with 195,000km (Canadian eh?) and the HUD doesn't come up at all (checked dimmer & positional sliders). I read the previous posts and checked fuse 5A but it looks fine. In my previous check I needed to replace 9E (rear window defog) which was blown, but it didn't help.

I came across a HUD write-up that shows a HUD wiring diagram (courtesy of GM) that shows the fuse that protects the system. The diagram shows a wire from the HUD control module and a label with Fuse 20, 10A and an arrow to IGN.

Another diagram shows a symptom flow chart from the Bonneville '94 service manual to aid diagnosis which makes me think they are related.

I'm not capable of doing the probes of the HUD control module it suggests, but was wondering if there is another fuse either under dash or even in-line that I could check before going to the shop.

Any thoughts appreciated. Thanks.

That sounds like something to do with your MPH/KPH selector button or its connector; it sounds like it'* flipping between miles and kilometers on your speed display.

No, 5A is the right fuse. You may be reading a service manual for a different year. Time to do some wire-probing.

Thanks. FYI, here'* a link to that general HUD write-up (pdf file) http://www.i-car.com/pdf/program_sup...3/novdec93.pdf

The HUD actually came up yesterday for an instant, then went away. Later that evening I noticed it fade in and out a couple of times which makes me think there'* a loose connection.

Have you tried fiddling with the HUD dimmer control?

Yeah ... both the dimmer and the positional slider. I'll do some poking around over the weekend. If I come up with anything will let you know. Thanks for your efforts.
