Default GM Stereo Unit!

Well it finally happened! I blew the factory cassatte deck last night! I was cleaning the evap core, like I do every year after the pollen stops flying, when I guess I got too much water inside the car this time as I had 2 large puddles on the the front mats! Now the radio will not work! So now I guess I start looking for a new deck! I've got a 92 SE with "UK3" steering wheel controls, "UW6" speaker system (6, dual front door tweeter & woofer, dual extened range shelf) and "UX1" Radio (AM/FM stereo, weather, cassette, equalizer, ETR, includes clock). My question what CD decks can I get that will fit & work with this combo! I want to keep the steering wheel controls too! I want to get a CD deck that will eventually be hooked upto a Amp & better speakers too. My present front door speakers are starting to crackle especially on the passenger door! Which decks do you gals & guys have? I'm going to try to repair this deck in the mean time as living without music in my car is unbearable!

As far as factory decks, I think most any built for Pontiac that use steering wheel controls should work. I pulled out my cd deck from my Bonneville and installed it in my aunts grand am with absolutely no hassel.

There are also a few aftermarket decks that come compatibe with our controls. I think either Sony or Kenwood makes them. They apparently have the plug we need built in to them.

There is also adapters you can get for other radios to make the steering wheel controls work. I belive the only criteria for this is that the deck has an option for a remote. This is what the adapter user to tap into the deck. Although I don't know much about them, here is a link to a topic that touches on them and this subject in general.

Well it turns out is was just coincidence! The deck was jammed between tape & radio! I thought something like had to be the problem as water never flows uphill! Besides no venting is even near the radio! I did find out a few things though! First off my radio is discontinued from GM as well as the GM CD radio unit too. Second NO aftermarket unit will work with the steering wheel controls because the harness is too old & the newer GM cars have a different harness now! The best advice I got was to wire in a CD Changer to my existing deck.
Thanks for the advice though!
