I did a complete change, pulling a full vacuum before adding Freeze12. I believe the instructions for Freeze 12 say you must do this. You are right, the Freeze12 fittings do not match R12 fittings because they want to make sure you do a complete evac by making you put expensive Freeze12 brand adapter fittings on your car. I wish i could remember exactly what i did, but this is what i remember:

First, 93 bonnevilles have a funky High Side fitting, and i had to buy an adapter at Carquest to make the high side fitting fit my R12 Guage.

Second, to make the Freeze 12 can fit my R12 can tapper and guage, I welded two nuts together...one nut that fit the Freeze12 can, and one nut that fit the R12 can tapper that connected to the guage. The nuts did not have to be airtight because the rubber Oring on the can tapper does the sealing. The nuts only had to keep the Oring clamped to the can. If your tapper is different than mine, this may not work for you.

We converted 5 tractors to 134a, and after two post-conversion compressor failures, we decided trying to convert an R12 compressor was futile, and started replacing compressors during the conversion. This is why i shy away from a 134a conversion on my car...might as well wait until my original compressor is toast.

Haven't tried them. But I would recommend flushing the system and reloading with R134a. I also tried EnviroSafe'* ES12 which worked pretty well too.

My '90 Bonnie is running all stock "R12" components with R134a. (compressor failure dumped the original R12 charge..hence the switch.) Doesn't get as cold as R12, but it is acceptable and keeps the cabin temps bareable on Florida days.
