thanks

Edit: Consumer protection is checking to see if the business has a license and is sending the complaint. Business has 20 days to respond.

If he isnt a licensed dealer, consumer protection cant do much for me aside from my side complaint about the engine swap. Although if he is engaging in dealer-like activity, maybe they can get him for operating without a license and force him to comply with the requirements that would be on him if he was a dealer. Though 1st offense is only a misdemeanor in this state, so..

On the bright side.... I have the car, and though I have already spent twice the blue book value of the car on it, it will eventually be a nice running nice looking car. So count on me being a long time member at least

I just need to sort out the engine problems, fix a leaky taillight (it is full of ice, turn signal burnt out yesterday, suprise), replace a cracked fender, and replace rusted rocker panels. After that, maybe I will look into doing late model 17" polished wheels, a 95-99 headlamp swap and possibly a projector retrofit for HIDs in the low beam. My wife says her car cannot be modified any more than that, aside from things that cannot be seen or improve mileage/efficiency I even need to replace the stereo with a factory one and put in a hidden CD changer so the car stays looking stock inside. I told her I wanted to do a custom paint job after the rust repairs and replacing the cracked fender, she said I was only allowed to paint it factory colors.

Consumer protections notified me there is NO lemon law concerning the sale of used vehicles, and that they are explicitly sold AS-IS in this state, regardless of any representation made to you by the seller, unless I can prove fraud in the sale. He further went on to tell me that I cannot PROVE he defrauded me on the issue of the oil pump since I was able to drive it off the lot, therefore I have no proof that the oil pump was not working before the moment I left the lot. He also went on to tell me that the only way I can get any money back from the substandard engine swap he performed is through small claims, but I am probably not going to get anything out of that because he did swap engines, even if he swapped in a bad one and didnt replace a single gasket.

There you have it. If you want to be a used car salesman, or any other kind of business that is in the business of fraud, move to south dakota.

As for me.... I have questions to figure out where to spend the last of my student loan money so I can hopefully make my wifes car run that we have owned for 3 months now and have never driven.

Will the aluminum intake manifold from a 92 lesabre fit to replace the warped plastic plenum? If so will I need a different gasket kit?

Anyone have an idea why my power steering wouldnt provide any boost until turning the wheel all the way from lock to lock after the vehicle has been sitting?

Other than that, I just need to replace exhaust manifold gaskets, exhaust donut, valve cover gaskets, plugs, and hopefully nothing else major. Doesn't seem like there is any coolant in oil and I assume the engine running rough is a symptom of the leaking plenum and coolant it is burning from said leak.

I'm saving my money to run an ad on TV or in the paper to describe what this shop has done to keep other people away from it, and I am writing my state representatives to urge them to add a lemon law to the books.

This is insane. I have $3000 into a car I have been able to drive only a few miles and currently only functions as a driveway ornament.
